10 July 2008 - During High School, my two passions were electronics and cars. After graduating I went to work for Fisher Berkeley Corp., a manufacturer of Hospital & Business electronics, and attended college for several years (part time) towards an Electrical Engineering degree. Next I spent two years working in Radio Astronomy at UC Berkeley, building Radio Telescope electronics for the Hat Creek Site, in Northern California. I took a couple of engineering classes at Berkeley, but due to my job, was unable to finish my degree. I had bought a house at 24 years of age, and that meant work came before school.

By the mid 1980’s electronics and cars were married, so I went to work in the automotive industry. I became Master Technician Certified in ASE, Mazda, and Subaru, and worked as a Senior Master Subaru Tech until 2005. I became a Christian around 2000, and I was in charge of audio/visual for the church, and ran the sound board & recording each Sunday for 2 years, while my wife sang on the praise team. Around 2003, I volunteered as a math tutor for 8th grade students at Adams Middle School, through the church, and found teaching extremely rewarding.

I became an Automotive Technology Instructor at Contra Costa College in January 2006, and I am in the process of starting an Automotive Program at De Anza High School, in El Sobrante, which will begin in Fall of 2008. I received a mathematics degree last year, and should have a CTE Credential in August of this year.. The opportunity to give back to the next generation, that which was freely given to me, seems very appropriate at this stage of my life. The rewards of making an impact in a person’s life and future cannot be summed up with words.

I also have a small shop at my house, from which I run a part time auto repair business. This summer I am teaching automotive fundamentals to 4 high school students at my house as well.

I live in the Richmond View area, 2 blocks north of El Cerrito City Limits. I met my wife Norma, when she was renting the house my grandfather had lived in. My wife and I have been together 20 years; however we have no kids, except for 2 cats we refer to as “our boys”.
