In Loving Memory
Sharon Maves
1955-2009

Our dear friend, Sharon Maves, died from ovarian cancer on October 29, 2009.  In addition to her devotion to the environment, she laughed and played, hard and often, and made sure that the rest of us came along for the ride.  She has left a huge hole in her circle of friends.  Below is the obituary that was in the SF Chronicle, written by her brother, Mark:

Sharon B. Maves passed away peacefully, and far too soon, on October 29th, with both her strong will and ironic humor intact. She was dedicated to and passionate about comprehension and protection of the environment. That commitment found professional and policy form for San Francisco, Marin County, the Port of Oakland, Santa Barbara, and the Smithsonian Institution. "Free" time was volunteered for related activities through the years, most recently as a member of the Point Molate Restoration Advisory Board. Yet that time was also heavily shared with and focused on family and dear friends. A lover of sun, sand, and sailing, her passion found the wind following her to the San Francisco and Chesapeake Bays, the Caribbean, Baja and the Sea of Cortez, the South Pacific, and Australia. In her wake, she has left her loved and now saddened brother Mark and sister-in-law Mary Lou and doted-on nephew and niece Christopher and Morgan. And a circle of remarkable and loving friends. Easily anticipated, she requested a celebration of life with those cherished friends and family, stories and music, memories and humor - the date and place to be chosen soon.

A Celebration of Life was held Saturday February 6, 2010, in Berkeley.  Contact Christie Monson at ChristieMonson@aol.com for messages to the family etc.
