I graduated from El Cerrito High School in 1973, then attended U.C. Berkeley, where I earned a B.A. in Biophysics in 1977 and a J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law in December 1980. After passing the California Bar, I was hired by the State of California as a Tax Counsel in 1982 in Sacramento, where I specialize in tax legislation, especially in the area of tax administration and procedure.
I married my wife Loretta in 1985, and we have two sons, Tom, 20, and Steve 17. Tom is currently a junior at U.C. Davis and Steve is a junior at Jesuit High School in Carmichael. My parents are still going strong in their 80's and still live in the same house in Kensington we lived in while I was at ECHS. My younger brother and sister are still in the bay area, and my older sister is a Ph.D. at U. C. Riverside.
